I’m going to turn this Dumping Ground for Dangerous Farming Machinery and Wood for Carving…
…into an achingly beautiful 12-foot yurt with wooden floor, double bed and optional Moses basket, plus a baby-safe canvas-covered outdoor kitchen, featuring an off-grid fridge and grey water treatment.
It’s going to take a bit of time. But I’ll… (oh-ho), I’ll try… (here it comes), I’ll try and keep you posted. (Can you see what I did there?)

Alex does that grass cutter bar still work ? If that’s whats sticking up in the photo

It is what’s sticking up. Not sure if it works – it came with the tractor. It needs a new PTO hook-up but it’s a scary as hell thing. Got to work out where to stash it until we can either get rid or use it.

It’s a great bit of kit to have, you could cut grass or cereals crop, weeds and very light brush with it, it is as am sure you know a power sythe !
Soak all moving parts in oil and blades, its worth a few hundred pounds.
One thing to note they are not scary to use the bales just move a short distance sliding over each other in a very contained manner, worth getting one of your farming mates to set it up for you as its such a useful thing, your backs not always going to be up to useing a hand sythe !

It’s OK, Arch. By the time my back gives out I’m sure there’ll be a plentiful supply of labour.

Do you make the yurt frame from your own woodland as you have been getting very handy as a woodsman, just wondered

No, this 12-footer is coppiced ash from Stanmer Park in Brighton. Originally intended for our bathroom and later as an off-site, travelling yurt. We may never make our own, although the coppice I cut two winters ago will be useable in a few years.
